Lois Pepper Vocal Camp (Choral Camp)

Warm Up Those Vocal Chords!

Previously known as Choral Camp, we have affectionately renamed this camp the ‘Lois Pepper Vocal Camp’ after our friend and founder, Lois Pepper. Her legacy of service and worship lives on in this musical community that meets year after year.

Join us for one of the most harmonious weeks of the year! Seven days of joyful, Christian, intergenerational community during which we have daily worship times, music rehearsals, three home-cooked meals a day, and plenty of special activities (both camp-wide and age-specific).

The music staff of eight or more includes experienced educators and musicians with qualifications from Western, Wilfrid Laurier, and various US schools up to and including the doctoral level. Private voice lessons are available for those wanting this opportunity.

Each evening has its own unique event – Choose Your Own Adventure, All-Camp Worship, and the Talent Show to name a few. Don’t forget our Themed Dress-Up night…it’s always a hit! There’s always something to look forward to!

This camp is for people of all abilities and experience. Campers of any age are welcome – you can even bring the whole family!”

Overview of the Lois Pepper Vocal Camp

  • Primary Program

Primary Program includes infants to those going into grade 3. During all choir rehearsals involving parents and at some other times as well, members of Primary Program are cared for by the amazing Primary Program staff. These staff plan fun, age-appropriate adventures and activities for the time they spend with the children. (Meals, swimming, and campfire time are spent with families.)

  • Juniors

Juniors are campers who are going into Grades 3 to 7. You will attend choir rehearsals twice each day. Activities such as archery, gaga ball, other games, and campfires are coordinated by our beloved Junior Program Staff. Much of the day is spent with your cabin group, led by counsellors who are committed to campers’ every need. Juniors sleep in dorms with their counsellors who are ready to help with all nighttime concerns. Junior Program Staff and Counsellors are members of the Summer Team.

  • Intermediates

Intermediates are those campers who are going into Grade 8 to postsecondary. —You will sing in a huge choir in the morning. Then in the afternoon you attend Intermediate rehearsals. Instrumentalists are invited to bring their instruments for the talent show or to jam with other musicians! During non-musical activities, you will experience creative and wacky ideas that may include a life-size slingshot and special agents that help solve challenges in camp-wide games, all hosted by enthusiastic, talented staff that are committed to you having an exciting week!

  • College & Career

This age-group is made of campers who are at the stage of life where they are past intermediate/staff age but don’t feel like they belong in (or can’t afford) the adult program (roughly ages 18-30). This program is full of choices. You can choose to sing in the Intermediate choir, adult Chorales, or participate in our contemporary worship program. You can choose to participate in campfires or attend canvas cafe. In the afternoon, there will be specific rotations and programming designed for the College & Career program that you are welcome to attend.

  • Adults

Adults can include anyone mid-twenties to 99 years of age. At Choral Camp, there is creative programming of get-to-know-you activities and social events with our very own Adult Program Staff, who are also members of the Summer Team. Instrumentalists have afternoon options, too. If you would like a break from singing in the afternoon, choose Crafts with professional artist Linda Leigh, Afternoon Games, or swimming in Lake Erie.

Chapels:

Daily chapels are very important at Choral Camp. We conscientiously choose chapel leaders that will help campers of each age group grow spiritually. Our hope is that each camper will grow in their knowledge of God’s love for them and the gospel message while participating in Christian community. Primary Program Chapels and Junior Chapel Leaders use children’s songs, drama, movement, and crafts. Intermediate Chapels include contemporary music, and large and small group discussions. College & Career and Adult Chapels are thought-provoking and interactive.

Food:

Meals at Choral Camp are nutritious and delicious. It is not unusual to hear campers remark that a particular meal during the week was the best roast beef they had experienced in the last 5 years!

Our team of cooks in the kitchen are devoted to providing an outstanding meal experience for our campers. We do our best to accommodate special dietary needs and we appreciate speaking with campers or parents between registration and camp to ensure that the kitchen is prepared for your needs.

Instrumentalists:

Bring along your instrument to participate in small ensembles or the talent show!

There is something for every interest!

Accommodations:

Junior & Intermediate campers will have accommodations in dorm-style cabins.

There are 4 options for accommodations for adult campers:

  1. Bring a trailer. There are many electrical and water hook-ups.
  2. Register early to stay in the dorms. There are only a few spots available.
  3. If you live in Chatham-Kent, be a day camper!
  4. Book a cottage at Erieau and drive 5 minutes to and from camp.
